Kozhikode: Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee lit up the minds of students at Nadakkavu Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School with an inspirational speech during an interactive session on Thursday.
The former pacer, who had been the mainstay of Australian bowling attack for several years, talked about cricket, leadership, music and his struggles to overcome a career-ending injury during the talk.
“Leadership is about beliefs, having confidence in yourself and you should know your role well to carry out things effectively,” said Lee in his keynote address.
He said that when it came to cricket, Steve Waugh was the best captain that he played under because of his leadership skills. “He always used to get the best out of me, I could give my best because he inspired me to work hard and believed in me” he added.
Lee told the students that he had to overcome a major injury to fulfil his dream of playing for his country. "I was constantly hit with many injuries in my career. I had a fracture on my backbone when I was 16, and my doctor said I couldn't play anymore, and it would be risky, but I believed in myself, and worked hard each day, to get my goals ticked, and that's how I became successful," he said
"Sachin used to give me nightmares, he had a habit of scoring centuries against us, but there was mutual respect we shared, I used to applaud every time he hit a good shot, and whenever I got his wicket, he used to congratulate me after the match." He said he was always fond of music and it has always been a part of his family.
“My mother and brother were great musicians, I’ve been fond of music from a very young age, but I took my first professional step towards music when I was 22, and it felt like I had found the last piece of the Jigsaw puzzle of my life,” smiled Lee. He said that his parents were very supportive while he was persuading cricket as his profession.
