AP reeling under heat wave conditions
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is reeling under heatwave conditions while weather reports predicted that the coastal areas and Rayalaseema would have tougher days from Saturday.
Gummalakshmipuram in Paravatipuram Manyam district recorded the highest temperature of 43.25 degrees Celsius. In many areas, the maximum temperature rose by 4ºC.
State disaster management authority said severe heat wave conditions would prevail in 60 mandals from Friday. From Saturday, 192 mandals could be affected.
The report said Bapatla registered 43.18ºC, Badvel 43.13, Mantralayam 42.69, Nandyal 42.4, Narasraopeta 42.09 and Kurnool 42. Cyclone Mocha, which sucked the moisture in the sea, caused a rise in the temperatures in coastal AP, the weatherman said.
Meanwhile, Mocha moved from southeast Bay of Bengal to the north and lay centered about 510km west of Port Blair, 1140km southwest of Cox’s Bazaar (Bangladesh) and 1,060 km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar).
“Mocha is very likely to move northwards and gradually intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and further into a very severe cyclonic storm by Friday morning over central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve and move north-northeast with further intensification.”
It is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazaar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon on May 14, forming itself into a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 150-160 kmph, gusting to 175 kmph, the IMD Amaravati said on Thursday evening.
