Gopalnagar Society, a picture of neglect
Hyderabad: Around 4,500 residents of Gopalnagar Society in Hafeezpet have said that the GHMC is depriving them of basic civic amenities such as connecting roads, drinking water, garbage disposal and green space. The society in the western corridor is booming with gated communities and apartments, given its proximity to the IT zone.
The colony does not have door-to door collection of garbage.
Mr Chaitanya Jalagan, a resident said, “We get drinking water for 2-3 days in a month; on other days we buy water from private tankers. Each house pays Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. The Water Board tanker takes seven days, forcing us to purchase water from private tankers.”
Another issue the society is facing is encroachment of space allocated to a park. Residents said that when the layout was drawn, two children’s parks were proposed and notified to the GHMC. The land for one of the parks has been encroached upon and the GHMC moved court and secured a stay. Land notified for the other park is filled with construction debris.
A resident of the society alleged that “There is no outdoor space for our children to play. If the GHMC accepts that the portion of land is for a park, they should to clear the illegal settlements and make it ready for public use.”
Residents highlighted the lack of a connecting road to the main road.
“There is more than 80 per cent occupancy in our society but still there are no interconnecting roads. We urge the GHMC authorities to visit the society to learn our problems.”
