Telangana Wakf Board CEO not ready to accept role
Hyderabad: Newly appointed Wakf Board chief executive officer Abdul Hameed does not seem ready to accept the new responsibility.
Speaking to this newspaper Mr Hameed expressed his reluctance to join the Wakf Board. Mr Hameed, who has served earlier as CEO, said he had neither extended his consent nor had the government intimated him before taking the decision to transfer him to the minorities welfare department.
Mr Hameed said “I am satisfied with my present responsibilities.” It is learnt that he is lobbying for cancellation of his transfer order.
Officials at the minorities welfare department and the Wakf Board said they had stated that Mr Hameed was not interested in joining the board. “We have to wait for his response to the orders. If he refuses to join the board, we will appoint another officer,” an officer said.
“There are few officers of the cadre of deputy secretary in the state but no one is willing to accept the post in the Wakf Board,” he said.
According to the Wakf Act, the CEO should be a Muslim and not below the rank of deputy secretary. The Act envisages that in case of non-availability of a suitable Muslim officer. a Muslim officer of equivalent rank may be appointed on deputation.
