Indira canteens to miss date with Independence Day
Bengaluru: Not only will the much awaited Indira Canteens, which were expected to be thrown open on Independence Day, open a day later , but their number has now been reduced from 125 to 101.
Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, Mayor G Padmavathi explained that finding an ideal location for the canteens in all 198 wards was not an easy task. “Also, as we have had only opposition from the opposition parties, who are worried the Congress will gain mileage form these canteens, their number has been reduced from 125 to 101,” she added.
She was however, confident that the opposition party corporators would have no option but to find a location in their wards for the canteens as they are likely to be a huge hit among the massesk, especially the working class.
“Where else in the city will you get a nutritious and sumptuous breakfast for as little as Rs 5 and Rs 10?” she asked.
The first canteen will be inaugurated by Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi in ward number 153, Jayanagar. The inauguration will be followed by a mega rally that Mr Rahul Gandhi will address in the National College Ground, Basavanagudi.
