Kerala: Vilna Vinod's family to start stir in front of IDBI Bank

Though the family of CPM followers had met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who promised justice, next to nothing happened.

KANNUR: More than three months after a young woman employee was killed at IDBI Bank, Thalassery, when a security guard accidentally fired at her, the family is still running from pillar to post for justice. The bank has already informed at the industrial tribunal that Vilna Vinod (25) was not their employee, and they had no responsibility to pay the family any compensation. The regional head of the bank had informed that the deceased woman was an employee of business services provider Quess Corp Ltd., and Sudha Vinod, her mother, suspects a foul play behind the murder and the attitude of the bank.

"The bank now says that they are not liable to pay compensation for the death of our daughter since she was not employed with them. She wrote the test, attended the interview and canvassed accounts for the bank beyond the target. Even the manager had personally told me that she was doing very well at the job, though she was new. How can they now say that they do not have any connection with her," asks Ms Sudha. The mother added that after she had joined, she compelled her friends and relatives to shift their accounts to this bank.

"Now there are even contradictions in the bank statements of some of the accounts. All the details were with Vilna, who is no more to prove the truth. The man who fired, Hareendran, also came out on bail just after two weeks. What assurance is the bank giving to the employees and the customers going there? Had any of the customers met with the same fate of my daughter, will it be the same again? Can the bank still wash their hands off the tragedy," she asks.

Though the family of CPM followers had met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who promised justice, next to nothing happened. From next week, Sudha says, the family will start a sit-in in front of the bank. It was on June 2 Ms Vilna was killed at the bank during transaction hours, just three weeks after she joined the bank. Mr Hareendran was also a contract employee at the bank.
