Kokkallur school team reaches out to 25 places
Kozhikode: Students of Government Higher Secondary School Kokkallur have sent their relief materials and helped in volunteering at as many as 25 points in the state. About Rs 4.5 lakh worth materials were handed over to the flood-affected people in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Ernakulam districts.
The scouts and guides of HSS wing, NSS unit, ‘Ekos’ the alumni and Sree Gokulam college, Balusserry, local libraries, clubs, WhatsApp groups and Star Health Insurance company in Malappuram joined hands to make it possible.
“First, we visited the landslide-hit areas of Kannappan Kundu, Puthupady and flooded areas like Kinalur, Koorachundu, Edakkad etc in Kozhikode. The next day we set off to the affected places in Malappuram. Ekos spearheaded the initiative,” said higher secondary teacher Shibu. B.
The team handed over Rs 75,000 worth materials at Irulam, Cheeyyambam tribal settlements in Wayanad. Places like Chittatukara, Cheriya Pallam Thuruthu and Pattanam were covered in Ernakulam. Besides, the team had contributed funds towards the house construction of the landslide-affected at Karinchola.
“Students themselves had made a good collection of notebooks, pen, pencils, other study materials and distributed it to the flood-hit children,” added Mr Shibu.
Alumni members, Ima V.R, Arjun, Sharanya, Sreekuttan, Ashlu Rashad and others provided online help in rescue operations.
The school team is now collecting resources towards Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) to build a new Kerala.
