Kozhikode: Normal life was hit by the hartal in the district. Although no untoward incidents occurred, yet most shops stayed shut in city areas. Schools and government offices also remained closed.
Until afternoon, roads were deserted with less number of private vehicles plying. KSRTC services too were off till 6 p.m. They ran a few services in the evening.
People who arrived by train were stuck at railway stations without pickups and food. NGOs and volunteers helped them to reach destinations near the city.
Police also provided travel arrangements for the stranded people. In the morning, Congress workers allegedly closed some private offices by force at the YMCA area. In rural areas, medical shops functioned from morning itself. However, most of the shops were closed even after the end of the hartal at 6 pm.
