Kottayam: The National Commission for Women has issued a notice to Poonjar MLA P.C. George for making controversial statements against the nuns who are conducting a sit-in strike in Kochi demanding strong action against Jalandhar diocese Bishop Franco Mulakkal.
The MLA had also made insulting remarks against the survivor nun who alleged that she was raped by the bishop.
NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma asked Mr George to appear before the commission in New Delhi on September 20 and give his explanation. She deplored his statement which she said warranted punishment. An MLA should not have made such remarks insulting the nun, she said.
