ED grills TMC MP Abhishek\'s wife in jobs scam
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress scion Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Banerjee Narula was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over eight hours on Wednesday in the West Bengal government school teachers jobs scam.
This was the first time Ms Narula faced grilling by any central agency in the case. Her MP husband earlier faced grilling by the ED in the same case. Ms Narula was served summons by the ED last week. At around 11 am on Wednesday Ms Narula appeared before the ED at CGO Complex in Salt Lake.
She was asked why she quit as a director of Leaps & Bounds, a private firm that was headed by Mr Banerjee as CEO earlier and was allegedly involved in the scam, according to sources. At around 7.30 pm, Ms Narula left the ED office after recording her statement.
TMC however cried of a political vendetta by the BJP over her grilling. State minister Shashi Panja claimed, “It is nothing but political harassment that the ED called and questioned Ms Narula. It also reflects BJP’s political vendetta. The BJP fails to fight us politically in elections and so uses the central agencies to meet its agenda."
