PIL to remove AIADMK flagpole at Salem bus stop

Chennai: A PIL has been filed in the Madras high court to direct the authorities to take steps to remove the AIADMK flagstaff (flagpole) which is situated in front of a bus stop at section road and adjacent to National Highway-47 in Pulavari village, Nalkarapatti Union, Salem District.

A division bench comprising Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and P.Rajamanickam before whom the PIL filed by S.Saker, a resident of Pulavari village, came up for hearing ordered notice to Salem District collector and five others and posted to November 15, further hearing of the case.

Petitioner's counsel A.Rajakumar submitted that people living in and around the Pulavari village were using the bus stop situated in section road and adjacent to NH-47and based on the same for the convenience of the people, a Shadow Hall (Nilarkodam) was constructed at a cost of Rs 7 lakh out of MLA’s fund. The bus stop is being used by school students also. While so, without obtaining any permission from the authorities, the AIADMK party members planted the AIADMK flagstaff in front of the said bus stop.

Because of the AIADMK flagstaff, school students, college students and the village people were affected. Moreover, because of the AIADMK flagstaff, there is a high possibility of accidents to happen in the area. Therefore, he sent a representation to the authorities on September 14, 2018 to take necessary steps to remove the AIADMK flagstaff.

As there was no response, the petitioner filed the present petition, Rajakumar added.
