Hyderabad: Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, was celebrated across the city with religious zeal and fervour on Sunday. There were processions and rallies in different parts of the city. Hundreds of people participated in the processions holding green flags and raising slogans in praise of the Prophet.
Streets, roads, bazaars, shopping centres and private buildings were beautifully decorated and illuminated with lights, colours, and banners bearing writings about the celebration of Milad-un-Nabi.
Police had deployed additional forces in communally sensitive areas in the old city in the wake of the verdict delivered by the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya dispute. Personnel of the Rapid Action Force and City Armed Reserve Force were deployed near Mecca Masjid and Charminar.
Several community organisations held blood donation camps in the twin cities. Special dishes prepared at home by individuals and organisations were given free to the poor and fruits were distributed in hospitals. Conferences and special events were arranged to pay homage to the messenger of Islam.
The biggest congregation was held at Exhibition Ground, Nampally, organised by the All India Taamir-e-Millat. Eminent scholars addressed the gathering.
Renowned Islamic preacher Moulana Kaleem Siddiqui exhorted Muslims to follow the teachings and life of Prophet Muhammad, who overcame crises with peace. He said India is a country for Muslims as much as for other communities, and called upon the community to maintain good relations with fellow countrymen, adding that when Islam started spreading, it spread the message of peace.
Forum for Cultural Upgradation & Social Service (FOCUSS) commemorated the birthday celebrations of the Prophet Muhammad in a big way under the patronage of Maulana Dr Ahsan bin Mohammed al Hamoomi Imam of Royal Mosque, Nampally. It conducted two major blood donation camps, at Central Library, Afzal Gunj, and Eidgah Balamrai, Secunderabad.
