HYDERABAD: Two garbage bins are preventing a government school with about 1,500 students in Fatimanagar, Falaknuma, from functioning from its Rs 30 lakh building, constructed two years ago.
The bins placed in front of the school gate makes it an unhygienic space.
“The building is meant for the Government Primary School, Vattepally. Children are not going to the school because parents are worried they may fall ill,” said Mr Amjedullah Khan, MBT leader.
Instead, the school functions from a nearby high school building during the morning shift for four hours between 8 pm and noon as against the stipulated six-and-a-half hours. “Students are losing precious study hours,” said a parent.
The high school can only function between 1 pm and 5 pm. “Higher classes require more study hours but due to space crunch the school is run in the afternoons for just four hours,” said another parent.
“The educational department informed the GHMC about the garbage bins six months ago but there is no response. We have sent them reminders too,” said deputy inspector of schools, Bahadurpura-I, Satyanarayana.
Mr B. Suman Rao, deputy municipal commissioner, Circle 10, said there is no alternative place to shift the dumper bins. “It is a thickly populated area and a lot of trash is disposed of in the bins. Some alternative arrangements will be made,” he said.
