Southern Railway first aid booth a boon for Sabarimala devotees
Sabarimala: The first aid booth opened by the St John Ambulance India wing of Southern Railway at Chengannur railway station has become a boon for the Sabarimala pilgrims. The booth opened last week has treated over 200 devotees, including those with serious injuries and heart attacks. In many serious cases of accidents, the first aid centre played a crucial role in saving the victims. The unit is managed by the Thiruvananthapuram railway division under the chief medical officer.
Mr R. Jayakumar, secretary of the unit, said that most of the patients came with severe body pain and leg wounds. “On an average, 20-25 patients are visiting our booth daily. On Tuesday, a devotee from Karnataka came here after experiencing seizure on a train followed by a head injury. We gave him first aid and took him to hospital using the ambulance for further treatment,” he said.
