Hyderabad: Card shortage leaves people without driving licences

Despite clearing the test, many do not receive DL.

Hyderabad: Stationery shortage over the last two weeks led to a delay in applicants receiving printed driving licence (DL) and registration Certificate (RC) from the Road Transport Office (RTO), said authorities.

Despite clearing the driving test and generation of the soft copy of the licence two weeks ago, many had not received their printed copies.

The wait for the printed RC books had gone into a few months. Most citizens alleged that they had to wait for more than two or three months to get the hard copy of their vehicle registration and many of them are still waiting to get their RCs. Some of them alleged that they had been asked to print their own cards from the soft copy sent by the RTA.

Mr B.P.K. Reddy, a resident of Kondapur, said, “I applied for a new RC in January 2017, and as per the online information, it got printed on March 3 and was dispatched on March 6. But I was told the EMS number did not exist. I went to the RTO and some agents said I could get the RC the same day if I paid additional money. The RTO staff told me that within 10-15 days I will receive the RC by post, but it is close to 10 months now, I am yet to receive it.’’

City resident Vijay Bhaskar said, “My two-wheeler registration was done on October 10, 2017, but I have not received the RC. I was informed that my card was printed on November 11 and was dispatched the same day. It is strange that it has still not reached me.’’

Ms V. Madhavi of Hyderabad said, “We cleared the driving test and a soft copy was generated, but so far I haven’t received the printed driving licence card. I don’t understand the reason behind the delay when we performed all the formalities to get a licence.’’

RTA officials said the delay was only because of the shortage of the stationery two weeks ago and they had started dispatching the cards.

Joint transport commissioner, Hyderabad, J. Panduranga Naik said, “There was a little delay in supply of CUC cards for printing the DL and the RC. But now all pendency has been cleared. There is some pendency left in the Secunderabad RTO office but it will be cleared in a week.”

“A vehicle registration never takes three months. Registration is done immediately the day the vehicle comes to the RTO and we inform the applicant of the vehicle number via text to the registered mobile number. It takes only three days to print the hard copy and seven days to despatch the card,” he said.

Sometimes if the person is not available and the address is not given properly it may take more time.

Some offices in Ranga Reddy district have more delay than the Hyderabad RTO office,’’ he said.
