Garbage segregation: BBMP official demands Rs 15,000 as penalty from defaulters
Bengaluru: For the BBMP, segregation of waste is a must to make sure the city does not go to the dogs, but in the process, the Palike’s officers have been handed a golden opportunity on a platter to make a fast buck. So aver residents of Nagasandra and Peenya in the city, who allege that a health inspector has been demanding Rs 15,000 from apartment complexes in the last two months as ‘penalty.’
Interestingly, the penalty has been imposed by the officer even before BBMP officially decides to penalize those not segregating garbage! And as is the practice at most BBMP offices, there is no receipt forthcoming from the official, which makes residents suspect that the money they pay never reaches the cash strapped BBMP's coffers. “We fear filing a complaint as we are worried that he will create problems for us,” a resident confided.
Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t!
