Rohith's mother, brother to attend Muslim League rally in Kerala

Rohith's mother told reporters that her family facing constant threats from the forces opposed to the ideas propagated by her son.

Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Union Muslim League would raise in Parliament the issues highlighted in the suicide note of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula, including the delay in disbursing scholarships and stipends to Dalits.

The assurance was given by IUML leader and Kerala social justice minister Dr M.K. Muneer to Ms Radhika Vemula, mother of the scholar who called on him at his official residence here on Thursday.

Later, Ms Vemula told reporters that her family was facing constant threats from the forces opposed to the ideas propagated by her son.

The propaganda that her son was not a Dalit was part of a concerted attempt to divert the whole issues to help those who were behind the incidents that led to the suicide of her son, she said.

Ms Vemula wanted the people of the state to support her in her fight for ensuring justice to her son. Rohith had highlighted the nonpayment of stipend as one of the central issues in his suicide note.

“I have to get seven months of my fellowship, Rs 1,75,000. Please see to it that my family is paid that,” it said.

Ms Vemula along with Raj Vemula, brother of Rohith, were here to attend the concluding ceremony of the Kerala Yatra undertaken by IUML leader and industries minister P. K. Kunhalikutty.
