102 polling booths vulnerable in Thanjavur district: Collector
Thanjavur: All measures have been taken to implement the Model Code of Conduct that came into force from Sunday soon after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections in Thanjavur district, said A. Annadurai, district collector here on Monday.
He told presspersons that 24 flying squads have been formed to work in three shifts in all the eight assembly constituencies in the district. While six Assembly constituencies-five in Thanjavur district, one in Tiruvarur district (Mannargudi) come under Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency, three Assembly constituencies in Thanjavur district, namely Kumbakonam, Papanasam and Thiruvidaimaruthur come under Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency. Bye-elections to Thanjavur Assembly constituency is also held along with Thanjavur Lok Sabha elections on April 18, the collector said.
Another 24 static surveillance teams have been formed to monitor from check posts in all the eight assembly constituencies. Video surveillance teams have also been formed. Filing of nominations start on March 19, he said. The last date for filing papers is March 26, scrutiny on March 27 and withdrawals permitted till March 29. Symbols will be allotted on March 29 after withdrawal time is over.
The collector also said that 102 polling booths in Thanjavur district have been identified as “vulnerable”. Additional police and para-military forces will be deployed besides appointing micro observers in these places.
Among the voters 11,995 are differently-abled and for them facilities like ramp, wheel chairs have been made in polling booths. Separate indication marks have been made for them in the voters list.
Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency comprises Thanjavur, Thiruvaiyaru, Orathanadu, Pattukottai and Peravurani Assembly segments in Thanjavur district and Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district.
A total of 1691 polling booths have been set up in Thanjavur Lok sabha constituency. There are 14,43,378 voters in the constituency including 7,03967 male voters, 7,39,314 female voters and 97 other voters (trans genders).
Election control room is functioning from the collectorate. People can contact toll free number 1950 to know about details regarding their names in voters list etc. They can also air their grievances and complaints. Those who call on cellular phones should dial the Thanjavur code of 04362 and the toll free number 1950.
Stating that EC has introduced ‘C Vigil’ app, he said people could send any violation in poll code with pictures through this app. Immediate action (within 100 minutes) will be taken, the collector said. S.S. Maheswaran, SP Thanjavur, and N. Sakthivel, DRO, were present on the occasion.
