161 poll booths vulnerable in Salem , two hyper sensitive'
Salem: Salem collector, Dr Rohini Bhajibhakare who flagged off the surveillance vehicles here on Monday in pursuance of implementing the model code of conduct (MCC) for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls said 161 polling stations have been identified as ‘vulnerable’ here.
Speaking to reporters here after a review meeting on poll preparedness, Dr Rohini said two polling stations in the district have been found to be ‘very vulnerable’, requiring extreme focus on the part of the law enforcing agencies on polling day. The Salem LS constituency has 1,809 polling booths in all, the collector said.
The Salem parliamentary constituency, including the Assembly segments of Omalur, Edappadi, Salem West, Salem North, Salem South and Veerapandi, has in all 8,00,320 male voters, 7,92,090 women voters and 77 transgender persons, she said. The total electorate is 15,92,487 voters in the parliamentary constituency.
In neighbouring Namakkal parliamentary constituency, which comprises the Assembly segments of Sankagiri, Rasipuram, Sendhamangalam, Namakkal, Paramathivellore and Tiruchengode, the total electorate is 13,98, 365 voters, said its district collector Dr Asia Mariam after a review meeting in Namakkal on Monday. Of the 1657 polling stations in Namakkal constituency, 248 have been identified as ‘vulnerable’ and three ‘very vulnerable’, she disclosed.
The Erode LS constituency, includes eight Assembly segments of Erode East, Erode West, Modakuruchi, Perundhurai, Bhavani, Andhiyur, Gobichettipalayam and Bhavanisagar, said Erode collector, C. Kathiravan.
He said 2,213 polling stations have been set up for this constituency, of which 192 have been found to be ‘vulnerable’, he said.
The Erode parliamentary constituency reportedly has a total electorate of 18,62, 780, with women voters outnumbering men, he said.
