Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences students to plant, nurture trees
BENGALURU: Every student admitted to colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will now have to plant a sapling and nurture it throughout his/her studentship.
The sapling can be planted in or around their respective college campuses and the institution head would monitor the activity themed ‘My tree for my country,’ said Dr M.K. Ramesh, Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS.
“The activity aims to develop eco-sensitivity among future generations also mitigating our carbon footprints,” he elaborated. The students will also receive a commendatory certificate from the varsity at the end of the course.
Rs 3cr for dengue research
With dengue rampant in the country, the varsity has decided to collaborate with affiliated institutions and biological scientists from Indian Institute of Science to identify certain bio-markers for predicting patients who may develop complications from the same.
“This will help reduce the cost of treatment and the predictors would help effective monitoring of such patients. Samples will be collected from 1,250 patients over time to further this research,” explained Dr G.S. Venkatesh, Director, Advanced Research Wing, RGUHS.
Thesis evaluation made online
In a bid to make the entire process of completing dissertation easier for research students, the varsity has made submission and evaluation of the same and its synopsis online.
Officials claim that this would add to the convenience of the evaluators and guides as their duty could be done from any place. “Students need not take numerous hardcopies of their thesis as well from now on,” officials said.
57.48% clear Ph.D admission test
The varsity had introduced an entrance examination for admission for Ph.D in various health science disciplines. As many as 169 candidates out of 294 who applied for the same have cleared it in the academic year 2017-’18, the VC added.
