BRS getting overwhelming response, India waiting for right leader, right party: KCR

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday said the party was getting an “overwhelming response” from people in Maharashtra, sharing that he entered national politics to bring about a “qualitative change” to the current political situation.

Chandrashekar Rao said that the country is “waiting for the right leader and the right party” to get out of the current situation, vowing to never compromise on the unity and integrity of the country.

Speaking at an iftar party organised by the government at LB Stadium, he said: “Today, India is passing through difficult times. India is known for communal harmony. This country belongs to all. Let us move forward unitedly. Let us strive to protect the country.”

Stressing the need for everyone to unite and work towards finding solutions to the problems being faced by us today in the country, Rao said, “India is ours. We have to save it at any cost. Whatever we are witnessing in the country today is only a temporary phase. Finally, victory will be of truth. Even during the Telangana movement, I used to believe that achieving statehood will take time, but one day, it will definitely become a reality. We will overcome the current situation in the country too very soon.”

The Chief Minister said that no one could destroy the “Ganga Jamuni Tehzeeb (communal harmony) of the country”, adding that those who try would be destroyed.

Lashing out at the BJP government at the Centre, Rao said Telangana state has been progressing, but the country has been going backwards. “If the Centre also performed like the Telangana state government, the country would have progressed at a much greater pace,” he said.

“Telangana GDP would have been Rs 3 to Rs 4 lakh crore more than the present had the Centre performed like us. We lost Rs 4 lakh GSDP due to Centre's failures,” he said.

He said that over the past nine years, Telangana’s per capita income has touched Rs 3.08 lakh, the per capita power consumption reached 2,140 units and paddy cultivation reached 66.40 lakh acres, the highest in the country.

“We have resolved power and drinking water issues and soon, the issue of unemployment will be resolved,” he said.

Stating that the welfare of minorities was of utmost priority to his government, Chandrashekar Rao said that the previous Congress government, from 2004 to 2014, spent only Rs 1,180 crore on minority welfare, whereas the BRS government has spent over Rs 12,000 crore in nine years.
