Hyderabad: The drug price regulator NPPA has issued notices to several pharma companies, including India’s first and second largest drug makers Sun Pharma and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, for overcharging customers for certain medicines.
According to the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), some pharma companies have been selling 113 drugs at a price, which is more than the ceiling fixed under the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) 2013.
The regulator found drugs were overpriced between a few rupees to a few thousands of rupees.
The companies which were served notices included Sun Pharma, Lupin, Torrent, GSK, Abbott, CIPLA, Neutec, Intas, Dr Reddy’s and others. Some of these companies have rejected the charge and claimed that they are compliant with the drug price ceiling.
