Vijayawada: Worm in food served to MLA
Vijayawada: Negligence and unhygienic conditions have become quite common in restaurants and star hotels across the city. A legislator who ordered breakfast in a star hotel was shocked to find live worms in food served to him. The incident took place on Tuesday morning at Minerva Grand Hotel in the city where Nellore district Udayagiri MLA Bollineni Rama Rao, along with senior leader Ananda Naidu ordered a plate of puri and the restaurant staff have served the dish in which they found an insect.
When Mr Rama Rao asked about it, the hotel management responded in a negative way and he complained to the food safety officials on the issue. “I have visited the hotel considering its rich ambiance. We found a live worm in the food served to me and asked the hotel management to respond to it. I have waited for almost 45 minutes for their response but they have totally neglected me. I complained to the food safety officials on the issue,”said Mr Rama Rao.
Regional food safety and security officer Purna-chandra Rao and his team reached the spot and inspected the kitchen. “We found live worms in the food served to the MLA and after verifying it, we are suspecting that the worms are on the banana leaf used to serve the food. We have identified some stale food preserved in the freezer and we have temporarily seized the restaurant,” Mr Purnachandra Rao said.
