No builder for suspension bridge in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: No construction company has met the norms specified by the state government to build the nearly Rs 180-crore suspension bridge over Durgam Cheruvu — linking Jubilee Hills and Cyberabad.
The government is now coming under pressure to relax the norms. The GHMC had invited bids to construct the bridge — from Road No, 45 Jubilee Hills to Inorbit Mall — over the Durgam Cheruvu, under the Engineering Procurement and Construction mode.
The bridge was aimed at reducing traffic congestion at Cyberabad and bidders have to complete the construction in two years. The tender also had a condition that only firms which had previously built suspension bridges could apply.
Five prominent construction firms, including Hindustan Construction Company and L&T, had bid for the project but they were not selected as they lacked experience in building suspension bridges.
The GHMC has now written to municipal administration department to relax this stipulation but a decision in this regard has been pending. The matter has been also been referred to minister K.T. Rama Rao for approval.
The scope of work includes survey, investigation, detailed design and drawings and the construction of a cable-stayed bridge across the lake including approaches at Madhapur with standard viaduct spans and obligatory spans.
