Four Naxals killed in Chhattisgarh\'s Sukma, huge amount of explosives seized

Bhopal: Four suspected Maoists were on Wednesday gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma.

A joint search party comprising personnel of district reserve group (DRG), CRPF’s 223rd battalion and 201st battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) came under attack by a group of armed Naxals near Pulamphar forest under Jagargunda police station in Sukma district at around 9.30 in the morning, leading to a exchange of fire between them, that lasted nearly one hour.

Bodies of four Maoists were later recovered at the encounter site.

Besides, four weapons including a .303 rifle and a 12 bore pistol as well as huge quantities of explosives and camp materials were recovered, a senior police officer posted in Bastar said.

"Acting on a specific intelligence inputs on presence of Maoists in the area, a joint operation was launched by security forces. The joint search party came under attack when they reached near the Naxal camp set up near Pulambphar jungle, leading to the gun battle between them," Bastar range inspector general of police P.Sunderraj told this newspaper.

The Naxal camp was set up by the cadres belonging to Jagargunda area committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), he added.

Bodies of the four ultras were yet to be identified since the security forces were still in the jungle when the last reports reached Bastar police headquarters.
