Blue Whale game new challenge for Puducherry to deal with
Puducherry: Adding to the abnormally high number of suicides in the Union Territory of Puducherry, Blue Whale game is the new challenge the government has to deal with.
The increasing hold of this deadly 'Blue Whale' game among the youth was also adding to suicides in Puducherry posing a new challenge to the UT.
A week back Puducherry police had rescued a 21-year-old woman who was allegedly about to finish the deadly game. A 22-year-old man was also rescued by the police four days ago in the same manner.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Puducherry, has recorded the highest rate of suicide for the fourth year in a row, four times higher than the national average.
In 2015 the national suicide average was 10.6 where it was 43.4 in Puducherry. In 2014, the rate was 40.4 in Puducherry. The same report reveals that 68 per cent of the victims are in the age group of 14-35 years.
According to a report, in Puducherry, at least 15 youth between the ages of 15 and 25 commit suicide every month.
Consumption of liquor among the youth is considered as the main reason behind the suicide among youth.
Failure in love and examinations are also leading to suicides, said Siva Mathiyazhagan, co-founder of Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL) an NGO working among youth on suicide prevention activities.
