Madurai: As the AIADMK led by EPS-OPS factions prepares to sack his aunt V. K. Sasikala from the post of interim general secretary, beleaguered TTV Dhinakaran on Monday said his faction would not hesitate to bring down the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government if they don’t succeed in their efforts to change the Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday night , Dhinakaran, whose appointment as deputy general secretary by his aunt was declared null and void by office bearers of the party, accused Palaniswami of “betraying” Sasikala, who catapulted him to the position of Chief Minister.
He also accused Palaniswami and Panneerselvam, who merged his faction with the EPS camp last month, of being “power hungry” and not concerned about the welfare of the people. The ousted AIADMK leader also alleged that ministers were “keeping quiet” since they have “something to hide.”
However, OPS loyalist and former minister K. P. Munusamy rejected the “threat” saying that Dhinakaran was not even a member of the AIADMK and was expelled from the party by late J. Jayalalithaa.
“I don't want to waste my time by talking about a person who is not in the party and more so about a person who seems to be mentally unsound,” Munusamy said.
Political analyst Ravindran Duraisamy said Dhinakaran's latest statement shows that the cat is out of its bag.
“Dhinakaran is interested only in destabilising the government because he does not draw any power here. He is living in fool's paradise thinking that he will bring down the government. He cannot since he does not have the required support and it only shows he is interested in politicking,” Duraisamy
said.
Agreeing with Duraisamy, BJP leader M. Chakravarthy said the latest “threat” by Dhinakaran only shows how power-hungry the family isAnother political analyst Gnani Sankaran said Dhinakaran's statement reinforces the fact that the Sasikala family always wanted to control the AIADMK directly or through a proxy.
“They have been trying all these while to control the party. They are interested in control the party and nothing else,” he said.
