Hyderabad: The Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) has asked the AICTE to introduce a four-year Bachelor’s Degree over the three-year graduation, as almost all top universities across the globe recognise only the four-year Bachelor’s Degree for admission into their MS and MBA courses.
According to the association, this is the age of interdisciplinary courses from various faculties like Sciences, Management, Law and Arts.
A four-year degree course would have a wider variety of majors than the three-year degree courses, said association members. A BBA (Hon’s) with a four-year duration would enable and allow aspiring students an opportunity to pursue MS/MBA in the top global universities.
With the aim of educating and grooming students to get entry level positions in the field of Big Data Sciences, Business Analytics, Cloud Computing and Bioinformatics, Fashion Design, Multimedia, Animation and Visual Effects, Game Designing, Digital Media, Mass Media, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Econometrics, the Association has proposed introducing a Bachelor of Science (BS - Degree), a four-year undergraduate course on the lines of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati and Mohali.
The first two years shall focus on basics while the remaining two years will focus on specialisations.
If the courses are approved, then a four-year BBA course and a Bachelor of Science course will be introduced from the next academic year.
According to the Association, as per the AICTE Approval Process Handbook, all the Bachelor’s Degrees approved by AICTE are for four years duration and above. The Association demanded that as per the Washington Accord, which was signed by Government of India, all Bachelor’s degrees with four years duration shall be recognized mutually in India and abroad for credit transfer and/or acceptance and exemption of credits earned in India for further higher education.
