Jalandhar Bishop likely to be interrogated
Kottayam: Kottayam district police chief R. Harisankar said on Tuesday that the police is likely to issue a notice asking Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulakkal to appear for interrogation in the state in connection with the rape case of the nun.
A final decision on issuing a notice will be taken after a meeting of senior police officials, including IG Vijay Sakhare, and the investigating officer Vaikom DySP K. Subhash, in Kochi on Wednesday, apart from himself, Mr Harisankar said.
“We have collected most pieces of evidence in the case and needed some clarification from the bishop,” Mr Harisankar told DC. He said a decision on the arrest of the bishop will be taken on the basis of interrogation.
A 7-hour meeting of the same officials held on September 3 had failed to make any decision on the arrest of the bishop. After the meeting, Mr Harisankar had said the meeting was to review the progress of investigation and no discussions about the arrest of the bishop took place.
