Jayaprakash Reddy faces charges of human trafficking, forging documents
Hyderabad: Congress former MLA Mr. Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy (52) alias Jagga Reddy was arrested by the Market police of Hyderabad on Monday, on charges of human trafficking, forgery and other charges, in connection with a case of obtaining passports for three others using false details and also creating fake travel documents to traffic them to the USA in 2004. The Congress leader pasted the photographs of the trafficked persons on the identification cards of his wife and children to obtain the passports and visas, said the police.
The Market police registered a suo motu case on Monday and apprehended the Congress leader from Ibrahimpatnam at night. After a medical check-up at Gandhi Hospital, he was produced in the Eighteenth Additional Chief Metro-politan Magistrate Court which remanded him till September 25.
Addressing the media, Hyderabad North Zone DCP B Sumathi said that Jagga Reddy while serving as an MLA from Sangareddy, had committed the fraud. He had cheated the Government of India by creating fake documents and obtained passports for three persons. He also made a false complaint of losing his passport and got a new passport issued.
The personnel of Market police station received information that ex-MLA Jagga Reddy had obtained passports in 2004 for himself and for three others in the name of his wife Nirmala, daughter Jayala-xmi and son Bharath Sai Reddy by pasting the photos of three others from Regional Passport Office in Secunderabad. After obtaining the passports, he applied for USA visas and illegally transported them to the USA by accompanying them and made monetary benefits in the process, said the DCP.
Immediately a case was registered under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 409 and 370 of IPC, section 12 of the Passport Act and section 24 of the Immigration Act. “As the case is sensitive and against a former MLA, due procedure of re-verifying the allegations was done. We obtained the documents from the RPO and collected the Aadhar details of his family members and then confirmed that he indulged in the offence,” said DCP Sumathi. However, the details of the trafficked trio are yet to be obtained. Letters have been addressed to the Immigration Department officials to share the details of the woman and two children trafficked by Reddy.
The DCP said “Jagga Reddy used the documents of his wife and children and created fake documents by changing their ages and got the passports. Using the passports, he obtained visas for himself and the three unidentified persons along with one Jetti Kusuma Kumar, a local Congress leader. All the five went to the USA, dropped the woman and two children, both minors in New York. Reddy and Kumar returned, but the trio did not. He confessed committing the offence for money at the behest of a middleman.”
