LDF suspects bid to topple government

Pinarayi to address public campaigns in T'puram, Kollam & P'thitta

Thiruvananthapuram: The ruling LDF suspects that the ongoing agitation against the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to enter Sabarimala temple is aimed at bringing down the government.

LDF convenor A. Vijayaraghavan said those behind the agitation were trying to build an atmosphere for destabilising the government. “We need to look at the manner in which RSS, BJP, Congress and certain other organisations were organising agitations. Devotees are being pushed into the streets. The character of the mass agitation can be gauged from the slanderous and abusive words being used against the chief minister. Ministers are being blocked and attacks are growing on devaswom board offices,” he said.

Vijayaraghavan said the LDF has decided to organise public meetings in all districts to explain the front’s position on the Sabarimala verdict and to counter the misinformation campaign launched as part of the BJP-RSS-UDF agitation. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch the campaign addressing a public meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on October 16. He will also address meetings in Pathanamthitta and Kollam on October 23 and 24 receptively.

The LDF will also organise meetings in all district headquarters, Assembly segments, district panchayats and panchayats. The campaign programmes including family get-together will conclude on October 30.

Vijayaraghavan accused the Congress of playing dangerous politics. The Congress leaders have asked its cadre to join the BJP-RSS sponsored agitations in connection with the Sabarimala issue but without carrying flags. The state Congress stand is not in tune with the party’s national position.

The BJP double standards stand exposed. In Maharashtra the BJP led government implanted the Supreme Court verdict allowing women in Shani Shignapur temple and Haji Ali dargah. However, in Kerala it is opposing the Sabarimala verdict. Vijayaraghavan said the Congress and BJP were envious of the government’s efforts to rebuild Kerala post floods.
