Death threats to Assam CM Himanta Biswas
Guwahati: In what has alerted the Assam Police, some unidentified miscreants on Thursday threatened Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of dire consequences through hand-made posters at various places in Guwahati.
Police said that they have already taken note of these anti-social activities of miscreants and are looking into the conspiracy.
The posters, written in Assamese, carried a message---warning chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to stop actions harmful to Assam or face death. This threat follows a series of controversies involving the chief minister and his wife, which have sparked a major controversy and debate in the state.
These posters were found in the Aggyathuri area of Kamrup district, near Ganesh Mandir, earlier the area was the part of the Jalukbari constituency but after delimitation it falls under Hajo. The posters, adorned with text in the Assamese carried message---"Himanta Biswa Sarma, you are engaging in actions detrimental to Assam, and you should now cease these actions immediately or else you will be killed.”
Police said that they have started an investigation to find out culprits responsible for such postering.
It is significant that a few months back Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had received a threat in the form of an audio message from the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice.
In the purported audio clip, the speaker claimed to be Gurpatwan Singh Pannun of Sikh for Justice. He had alleged that the Assam government was harassing the aides of Amritpal Singh in Assam jail.
“This message is for Assam CM Himanta Sarma. Your government is harassing and torturing pro-Khalistan Sikhs in Assam. And also torturing those who are in jail. Listen carefully to CM Sarma, the fight is between pro-Khalistan Sikhs and the Indian regime. Sarma you do not pray to fall to this violence. We are seeking liberation of Punjab from Indian occupation through a peaceful democratic process of Khalistan referendum. Sarma, if your government is going to torture and harass Sikhs, you will be held accountable," the purported message had stated.
Assam Police had registered a case after the audio clip threatening Assam CM surfaced. "The security component of Hon CM has been adequately sensitised to the emerging threat. In view of global events, the threat is being taken very seriously by Assam Police. The central agencies have been kept in the loop on the issue," Assam DGP GP Singh had said.
