Telangana HC ticks off GHMC chief for his mistakes

Hyderabad: Justice T Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Thursday reprimanded GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose for the failure on multiple counts. The judge had summoned the commissioner on a writ petition filed by CSK Realtors over the civic body not issuing a transferable development rights (TDR) certificate after acquiring their land in Rajendranagar. The judge told Rose that the corporation was grossly lacking in facilities that were mandated in the GHMC Act, and observed that it had statutorily failed on multiple counts. The judge observed that the corporation was not giving unit-wise clearance for illegal constructions or regularisation, had failed to monitor street vendors and its staff was threatening residents for not paying the fee to collect garbage from the doorstep. The judge said the GHMC must ensure that lakes are protected and no construction takes place in the buffer zone. Justice Vinod Kumar said that the courts were burdened because the statutory tribunal mentioned in the GHMC Act had not been constituted. Rose said the corporation would take action. The judge granted the GHMC time to report compliance.

Give 2BHKs only to those eligible: HC

Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court directed the authorities to scrupulously follow the eligibility criteria for the selection of beneficiaries for allotment of double-bedroom houses. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Mubeena Begum, alleging discrimination against her at Kollur in Ramachandrapuram Mandal of Sangareddy district. The court in a batch of cases from D-Kothapalli of Nagaram mandal in Suryapet district found irregularities in the grant of the houses,

HC stays action in bank default case:

Justice Anupama Chakravarthy stayed proceedings in a case pertaining to the default of a bank loan. The quash petition was filed by M. Rohit Reddy, a builder, challenging the chargesheet issued against him by the police for default of a Lakshmi Vilas Bank loan. Counsel said the petitioner had submitted a letter from the bank stating that the loan was repaid, but the police had ignored it and filed the chargesheet. The court granted a stay in the proceedings before the XII Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, Nampally, and advised the petitioner to file the compromise petition and posted the matter to October 30.

Stay away, Basara temple officials told:

Justice C Sumalatha directed Sri Gyana Saraswathi Devasthanam, Basara, to not interfere with the possession of nearby property. The petition was filed by Janardhan who claimed ownership of the property near the temple. He contended that temple members had been unlawfully claiming the property. He had legally obtained the title and had been enjoying peaceful possession since 2019.

Plea challenges hike in ST quota:

A two-judge bench entertained a writ petition challenging the enhanced quota of reservation in favour of Scheduled Tribes from 6 per cent to 10. Kodepaka Rohith, the petitioner, said the enhancement had breached of the upper ceiling of 50 per cent for reservations set by the Supreme Court.
