Kozhikode Municipal Corporation to install CCTV cams

Installation at the main office in a move to ensure transparency.

Kozhikode: Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s main office building will soon come under the surveillance of five modern CCTV cameras.

The civic body took the decision to install cameras to ensure transparency and better services.

The corporation council meeting on Friday is expected to ratify the decision made by former mayor V.K.C. Mammed Koya as part of its modernization, including punching system.

The absence of CCTV cameras is one of the main reasons for the delay in the implementation of full-fledged punching system here.

Deputy mayor Meera Darshak said the cameras would cost over '5 lakh. “During the first phase, we will install five cameras. Its cable work takes more time and cost than the cameras. Once the council approves it, the installation process will start,” she told DC, adding modernization is also in progress.

“We are planning to expedite modernization process too, for which architect Vinod Cyriac has been assigned."

The corporation is also planning to install CCTV cameras in association Residents Associations in all wards to prevent waste dumping in public places. Many organisations have come up with proposals for its implementation.
