900 poets to be part of World Telugu Conference

The Telangana Sahitya Academy, which is organising the WTC, has finalised the schedule for the five-day event.

Hyderabad: A mega Kavi Sammelanamu of 900 poets will be held as part of the World Telugu Conference to be held at LB Stadium from December 16 to 19. A marathon Shatavadhanam has also been planned at Telangana Saraswata Parishad, in which 100 Avadhanis will take part. There will also be separate sessions on children’s literature and women’s literature. Folk arts and classical music shows will be held at Public Gardens. The Telangana Sahitya Academy, which is organising the WTC, has finalised the schedule for the five-day event.

While LB Stadium will be the main venue, cultural and literary events, debates, and entertainment programmes will be held at Ravindra Bharathi, Telugu University, Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium and Telangana Saraswata Parishad. Tourism secretary Burra Venkatesham said that nearly 900 poets from TS, AP and other states have registered for the Kavi Sammelanamu, and more are expected to do so.

“We plan to divide the poets into 35 teams. Each team will recite poems, starting from December 16 till 19. This programme will be conducted in LB Stadium. We are aiming for a record by conducting the kavi Sammelanamu for four days with nearly 1,000 poets at a time,” he added. Three seminars will be held every day in the Telugu University auditorium. Debates on literary criticism, prose, poetry, novels, and songs will also be held. Telangana Sahitya Academy chairman Nandini Sidda Reddy said Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium will host various events on December 16, 17 and 18 and Ravindra Bharathi from December 16 to 19.

“Special programmes on children’s literature and women's literature will be held in Indira Priyadarshini auditorium. Child poets and women writers will take part. A special debate with Indian and foreign literary women personalities will be held on December 19,” Mr Reddy added. A debate on Telugu journalism will be held on December 17 and using Telugu in legal affairs and government administration will be on December 18.
