Alappuzha villages get ready to woo tourists
ALAPPUZHA: The villages in Alappuzha are getting ready to receive foreign tourists after Kakkathuruthu Island found a place on NatGeo's must-visit list last year. Kerala Tourism is now pushing hard-hitting campaigns overseas promoting villages. Kakkathuruthu has no proper interconnecting bridges, but people are still live in secluded quietness cohabiting with nature. "Our life is moving at a slow pace compared to urban people," D. Satheesan, a social activist on the island, said hailing the decision.
"The paper works on a bridge are going on, and we hope the government to expedite it as part of village tourism initiative." Nat Geo's 'Around the World In 24 Hours' had described it as "to be at Island to see sunset to be a stunning experience in the world". It has an offer of a unique way of fish culture, an array of lagoons, the opulence of islands and flock of innocent people. Kuttanad has already found a place on the wish list of international tourists after BBC featured it on its top-rated 'The Travel Show' hosted by Henry Golding in 2015, highlighting unique lagoons, mighty rivers and sprawling canals.
"We used to provide visitors with special care to enjoy the uniqueness of our land," Kainakary panchayat president Sheela Sajeev said. "Most of them are getting attracted to natural beauty and unique way of living." Toddy production and cuisines also attract them. In 2010, Discovery Channel aired an episode on Kuttanad's unique spicy cuisine culture on its culinary show No Reservations.
