Hyderabad: Two fraudsters, who impersonated as government officials and looted lakhs of money from people under the guise of rendering official works, were arrested by the special operations team (SOT) of Malkajgiri.
The officials stated that the accused, identified as Karthikeya , and Fredric, hatched a plan to dupe gullible people.
Karthikeya, who is a chartered accountant by profession, gained knowledge of government affairs while working for a private company. As part of his work, he used to frequently visit Secretariat and acquired information about the personal secretaries (PS) in the office of IT minister, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR).
Subsequently, Karthikeya impersonating himself as Srinivas, PS to KTR, began speaking to various government officials to get his works done.
He contacted Sriramula Raju, administrative officer at Kasturba Gandhi Degree & PG College for Women at West Marredpally, and asked him to arrange an admission for his friend’s daughter and collected Rs 90,000 from him for doing the favour.
He downloaded the documents issued from the Chief Ministers office (CMO), took printouts and prepared fake documents and gave them to the victim. who has managed to get the seat. There are several cases lodged against him in various police stations throughout the state.
With the same modus operandi, he has gotten a government official transferred and also managed to get benefits under a government scheme.
The SOT Malkajgiri team apprehended both the accused from Malkajgiri area.
During interrogation, they confessed to have contacted many government officials and private employees by posing as a PS to KTR.
The police officials appealed to the public not to fall prey to such traps.
