Jagan Changes Incharges of 11 Assembly Segments Under Why Not 175' Target

VIJAYAWADA: In swift political developments on Monday, YSRC president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy changed party candidates in 11 Assembly constituencies.

In the process, he appointed new leaders for the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections in the state including in Mangalagiri Assembly constituency.

Education minister Botsa Satyanarayana and adviser to government (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy announced the names of the new incharges at a media meet in the party central office at Tadepalli on Monday night.

As expected, Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the candidature of prominent Backward Classes leader Ganji Chiranjeevi in Mangalagiri, in place of sitting MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy. Ramakrishna Reddy quickly resigned from the Assembly membership as well as from the party.

Similarly, in Gajuwaka assembly constituency, Jagan Mohan Reddy replaced aspiring candidate Tippala Devan Reddy, son of sitting MLA Tippala Nagireddy, who defeated Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan in 2019.

Instead, the YSRC named Varikuti Ramachandra Rao, who hails from Yadava community.

In Prathipadu (SC) Assembly constituency, presently represented by home minister Mekathoti Sucharita, Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed Balasani Kiran Kumar as the party in-charge for the coming elections.

Sucharita has been shifted to Tadikonda (SC) constituency in place of sitting MLA Undavalli Sridevi, who defected to the Telugu Desam recently. Interestingly, Sucharita’s appointment shattered the hopes of former minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, who was earlier appointed in-charge for Tadikonda.

Another senior minister Adimulapu Suresh, who has hitherto been representing the Yerragondapalem Assembly constituency, has been moved to Kondepi (SC) constituency, which was being nurtured by another senior leader Madasi Venkaiah.

The party has not named anyone for Yerragondapalem yet.

Siimilarly, senior leader and social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna has been shifted from his Vemuru (SC) constituency. He has been replaced by Varikooti Ashok Babu. Nagarjuna has been appointed in-charge of Santhanuthalapadu (SC) constituency, which is being represented by T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu, who was denied ticket for contesting the next elections because of various allegations against him.

Another major change was of health minister Vidadala Rajini, who has least chances of winning her constituency Chilakaluripet. She has been replaced by Mallela Rajesh Naidu. Rajini is being shifted to Guntur (West) Assembly constituency.

Sitting MLA Maddali Giridhar Rao, who defected from the TD to YSRC earlier, will not be getting the party ticket. In Addanki, Jagan Mohan Reddy has named Panem Hanimi Reddy as the candidate for the next elections. Hitherto, he had been the in-charge of Pedakurapadu constituency.

In Repalle, presently being represented by TD, the YSRC appointed a newcomer, Dr Evuru Ganesh, as the in-charge. He would be the party candidate for the Assembly elections.

Minister Satyanarayana said that the new in-charges would monitor the affairs of the party in the respective constituencies from Tuesday. “The party does not wish to lose anyone and it will continue to use the services of everyone. We have taken this decision to win all the 175 constituencies across Andhra Pradesh in the coming elections,” stressed minister Botsa Satayanarana.

YSRC general secretary and government adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that with these changes, the party was getting ready for the coming elections.

“The party will take a decision on using the services of its leaders whenever and wherever it is needed. It is not that these 11 leaders will not win but the changes are done to enable YSRC win seats with a good majority,” Ramakrishna Reddy emphasised.
