Party meet urges Centre to allocate Rs 1000 crore for cyclone loss

Kakinada: A meeting of some opposition parties has urged the central government to release Rs 1000 crore to Andhra Pradesh to offset the loss the state suffered due to the Cyclone Michugan rain.

Leaders of Telugu Desam, CPI, CPIM, Congress etc organised a roundtable meet in Rajamahendravaram on Monday.

CPI national executive member Akkineni Vanaja said there was massive crop damage in more than 20 lakh acres and thousands of electric poles fell, leaving the villages in darkness.

The meeting urged the government to declare 470 mandals as drought-hit and pay a compensation of Rs 30,000 per acre as also Rs 75,000 for commercial crops and Rs 1 lakh for horticultural crops per acre to the farmers.

CPI would hold “protests” in all collectors’ offices and sub collector offices on Dec 14.

Telugu Desam leader and the former MLC Adireddy Appa Rao said chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy “doesn’t care about the farmers and there was no use of Rythu Bharsoa Kendras.”

AP bar council member Muppalla Subba Rao found fault with the state government for “delay” in submitting cyclone report to the central government. He said all roads have been damaged. CPIM city secretary B Pavan said that due to non-removal of weed from the canals, many embankments have been breached.

Congress city president Balepalli Muralidhar, CPI (ML) New Democracy Chandranna group leader Cheekatla Venkateswara Rao, K Joji and others were present.
