YSR Law Nestham Introduced as per Padayatra Promise: CM Jagan
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has released ' 7,98,95,000 towards the second tranche of YSR Law Nestham for the financial year 2023-24. This would benefit 2,807 junior advocates.
An amount of Rs 30,000 each, covering a period from July to December 2023, would be credited directly into the bank accounts of beneficiary advocates.
Releasing the amount virtually from the Camp Office here on Monday, the Chief Minister said that YSR Law Nestham was introduced as per a promise he had made to lawyers during his Padayatra. “Law Neshtam would extend financial support to junior advocates during their initial three years after enrolment in the bar. It would help them settle down in the profession. The government would pay a total stipend of Rs 1.8 lakh to each junior advocate for a period of three years.”
Instead of paying the stipend of Rs 5,000 every month, the government would pay the amount every six months, a sum of Rs 30,000. So far, the government extended Rs 49.51 crore to 6,069 advocates, the CM said, and asked the junior advocates to extend their support to the poor.
The government has also set up an Advocates Welfare Trust with Rs 100 crore as corpus fund to help. It had extended a financial help of Rs 52 lakh to 643 lawyers during the Covid-19 pandemic times besides providing Rs 11.56 crore loans to 7,733 lawyers and medi-claim benefit of Rs 11.41 crore to 14,840 advocates.
Several junior advocates interacted with the Chief Minister and thanked him for extending financial support.
In Visakhapatnam, district collector A. Mallikarjuna gave a cheque of Rs 49,80,000 to 116 young lawyers under the YSR Law Nestham. Each of the 166 beneficiaries received Rs 5,000. This installment follows the success of two phases the previous year, where 119 individuals had already availed the financial benefit.
In Kurnool, collector G. Srijana said 135 junior lawyers received the financial assistance. In Nandyal, 98 junior advocates were given the money through their bank accounts. In Nandyal, collector Manazir Samoon urged the young lawyers to make good use of this financial support.
Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, law secretary Prabhakara Rao, senior officials of the Law department and senior advocates were present.
