Madurai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation petition seeking to direct the state government to nationalise the assets of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. A division bench comprising Justices A. Selvam and P. Kalaiyarasan dismissed the petition citing Supreme Court guidelines that personal issues of individuals can't be a subject for PIL.
Advocate K.K. Ramesh from Tamil Nadu Centre for Public Interest Litigation, Madurai, in his petition sought court direction to appoint a retired high court judge to find the movable and immovable properties belonging to Jayalalithaa and to appoint a retired High court judge to administer those properties after the government nationalised them.
