Hospital admissions of Covid patients on the rise across Telangana
Hyderabad: The surging cases of Covid-19 in Telangana continued to see a steady rise in hospital admission among Covid patients for the second day running on Thursday with 280 more Covid-hit patients getting admitted to various hospitals across the state. On Wednesday, 95 Covid patients were admitted to hospitals.
The number of Covid patients undergoing treatment in hospitals, according to the state health department, was 1,953 on Thursday.
Data released by the health department showed that occupancy of ordinary, oxygen equipped ICU beds for Covid patients rose in both government and private hospitals. Occupancy of oxygen beds rose from 654 on Wednesday to 813, while ICU bed occupancy increased from 455 to 468, even as the number of Covid patients on regular beds rose from 564 to 672.
Meanwhile, 2,707 fresh cases were reported on Thursday even as the active Covid cases crossed the 20,000 figure. Two more people died from the disease making it 4,049 fatalities.
For the first time in several months, on Thursday, Covid cases rose in every district of Telangana from the previous day with close to half of the day’s cases coming from GHMC limits, which reported 1,328 new infections. Medchal-Malkajgiri reported 248 cases, followed by Ranga Reddy with 202 cases, and Sangareddy district with 78 cases.
With 84,280 tests reported of which results were awaited for 10,026, the state saw one out of every 27 people who turned up for testing, or got tested, ending up being Covid-19 positive.
Over five crore doses given in TS: Harish Rao
Health minister T Harish Rao on Thursday again called on people to strictly follow Covid safety protocols, including wearing a face mask properly to keep themselves and those around them safe.
His appeal came along with a request for people to get themselves vaccinated. In a statement, Rao noted that Telangana had crossed delivery of five crore doses of Covid vaccines to people. He complimented the health department staff for administering one crore doses in just 35 days. He said that as on Thursday, Telangana had administered 2.93 crore first doses, 2.06 crore second doses, 1.13 lakh of booster or precaution doses with another 8.67 lakh doses administered to those between 15 and 17 years of age.
