Outstanding debt of Telangana stands at Rs. 2.83 lakh crore: Centre
HYDERABAD: The total outstanding debt of Telangana from the years 2014-15 to 2021-22 stands at Rs. 2.83 lakh crore, Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha.
Responding to a question from Congress member N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Chaudhary said that there was a Rs. 39,433 crore increase in outstanding debt in 2021-22. It was Rs. 38,161 crore in 2020-21 and Rs. 30,577 crore in 2019-20.
“Public sector banks (PSBs) informed that they have not given any loan to Telangana government from June 2014 to October 2022,” he said.
Meanwhile the NABARD had between 2014 and 2022 sanctioned Rs. 8,873 crore and had disbursed Rs. 7,144 crore.
The amount sanctioned for warehouse infrastructure fund (WIF) was Rs. 97,278.89 lakh and the amount disbursed was Rs. 85,227.94 lakhs. Under the food processing fund (FPF), a loan of Rs. 2,883 lakh was sanctioned, of which Rs. 1,007 lakh disbursed for the TSIIC mega food park at Sathupally.
Loan sanctioned under NABARD infrastructure development assistance (NIDA) was Rs. 14,516 crore and of that Rs. 11,424 crore was disbursed. The borrowers include Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation Ltd (TDWSCL), Telangana State Horticulture Development Corporation and Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project Corporation. Around Rs. 874 crore of this was sanctioned for horticulture and Rs. 8,226 crore for Kaleshwaram.
Raising the issue under matters of urgent importance, Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded the central government complete the six-lane national highway No. 65 from Hyderabad to Vijayawada as it connects Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He also raised the issue of improving railway connectivity, particularly touching Nalgonda parliamentary constituency.
