Hyderabad to get five more Metro routes
Hyderabad: Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday for the first time mapped out the extended route for the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
He told the Legislative Council here on Saturday that the Metro Rail, in its 83-km second phase, would run from Miyapur to Patancheru, Nagole to LB Nagar, LB Nagar to Hayatnagar, Tarnaka to ECIL and Raidurg to Shamshabad.
The first phase of the Metro Rail terminates at Miyapur, Nagole, LB Nagar and Raidurg. Tarnaka is on the Miyapur-Nagole line. Mr Rama Rao did not specify a timeline for the project.
He also did not mention the Metro Rail being extended towards the Sainikpuri and Alwal-Bolaram sides of the city, where people have asked for the service.
The minister was replying to questions raised by MLCs M.S. Prabhakar Rao (TRS) and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy (Congress). Mr Prabhakar Rao wanted the government to connect all villages inside the Outer Ring Road via the Metro Rail.
No Metro link to ORR villages now
Replying to TRS MLC M.S. Prabhakar Rao, minister K.T. Rama Rao said in the Legislative Council: “There are over 180 villages within the ORR. Though we cannot provide Metro Rail link to all the villages, we will follow the Hyderabad model and provide shuttle services to select places and ensure wider coverage of public transport. I can’t fix a timeframe for these projects.”
In response to Mr K. Rajagopal Reddy requesting that the MMTS be extended to Bhongir on priority, Mr Rama Rao said the service would be extended up to the temple town of Yadadri in Nalgonda district passing through Bhongir.
In a record 10 days we sent the detailed project report to the Centre and got permissions. Not only Bhongir, MMTS will go up to Yadadri,” he said.
