Salem: Woman gets Rs 1.4 crore compensation
Salem: In the highest-ever compensation handed out to kin of accident victim in Salem, the Lok Adalat awarded Rs 1.40 crore compensation by an insurance company to the family of an engineer who died in a road accident in Omalur in December 2014.
The cheque for Rs 1.40 crore by ‘Future General Insurance Company’ was handed over to Anusiya, wife of 48-year-old M. Nedunchezian who died in the accident. In just one year and two months, the family of the accident victim has managed to get a hefty compensation through the Lok Adalat.
The counsel for the accident victim’s family, P. Haribaskher and H. Shalini said, “Following the example of this case, if other accident compensation cases are settled quickly without delay, it would be a great relief for the kin of the accident victims.”
It was a holiday in their native town that turned into a tragedy for Anusiya and her three children including two daughters. Her husband, M.Nedunchezian who was working as chief mechanical engineer in an Odisha-based company was headed for Mechery on a motorbike when a speeding Bolero jeep nipped away his life in split second.
The family, which had lost its sole breadwinner, moved the Court seeking compensation of Rs 4 crore from the ‘Future General Insurance Company’. Through the Lok Adalat, an amicable settlement was reached and the insurance company gave Rs 1.4 crore compensation.
“I got Rs 1.40 crore compensation through the Lok Adalat. It will help my children to pursue their education. I did not expect to get such a huge compensation and so swiftly at that,” said
Anusiya as she received the cheque from the Salem district judge M.P. Subramaniam on Saturday.
