Hyderabad: 300 gold biscuits worth Rs 10 crore seized at toll plaza
Rajahmundry: Police seized 30 kgs of gold worth nearly Rs 10 crore from two gold merchants when they were carrying it in an Audi car from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada. The car was stopped at Narayanapuram toll plaza located at Ungutur mandal in West Godavari for checks on Tuesday.
According to West Godavari SP M. Ravi Prakash, police personnel along with officials from the flying squad and the static surveillance team, were carrying out vehicle checking near the toll plaza based on the directions from the Election Commission of India to curb unauthorised transport of cash, liquor and others meant to influence voters.
When they checked the car, they found 300 gold biscuits each weighing 100 gms. When police asked the two occupants in the car about the documents for possessing the gold, the two identified themselves as gold merchants having a jewellery retail outlet in Vijayawada. The duo reportedly informed the police that they went to Visakhapatnam and purchased gold and were returning to Vijayawada.
They showed some documents and original bills pertaining to the purchase of gold.
However, the police seized the gold from the duo and handed it over to the income tax authorities.
