Amaravati farmers withdraw petition in SC on GO-45
Vijayawada: Famers from Amaravati region have withdrawn their petition on GO-45 from the Supreme Court challenging the AP government’s decision to give the region’s lands to people from outside Amavarati by setting up the R-5 Zone.
A division bench of Justice K.M. Joseph and Justice B.V. Nagarathna heard the petition filed by the farmers from Amaravati.
Farmers’ counsel Shyam Diwan submitted to the court that the AP High Court would hear the case pertaining to the GO on R-5 Zone on April 19, to issue an interim order based on a plea filed by the farmers earlier. Hence, he sought permission from the court to withdraw the farmers’ petition. The court granted its permission to do the same.
Earlier, the court refused to give a stay order on GO-45 meant to give lands to the farmers from Guntur and Krishna districts in Amaravati region and asked the petitioners to approach the AP High Court.
Based on the interim order to be issued by the AP High Court on April 19, the farmers will take a decision whether to proceed further in the case.
