Rains bring respite for western Tamil Nadu

Both Krishnagiri dam and the Mettur dam received inflow on Saturday.

Chennai: Western districts have been receiving intermittent rains for the last few days. Kodaikkanal, Dindigul and Tiruppur have received good rainfall in the past one week increasing the inflow of storm water into almost dry reservoirs in western Tamil Nadu.

Both Krishnagiri dam and the Mettur dam received inflow on Saturday, while water from Krishnagiri dam was released for summer crops, no orders were passed to release water from Mettur.

According to weekly weather bulletin of the regional meteorological centre here Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Nilgiris, Theni and Tiruppur received excess rainfall in the last two weeks. Whereas during the same period there was no much rain or complete dry weather Ariyalur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.
