At 42.1ºC, Hyderabad records its hottest-day

Hyderabad: Hyderabad on Saturday recorded its hottest day of the summer so far, clocking 42.1ºC at Khairatabad, even as the temperature touched the 45°C-mark. In the city, Khairatabad was followed by Charminar at 41.2°C. The state is facing a red alert for heat.

The mercury shot up to 45.7°C in Karimnagar, followed by Jagtial (45.4°C) and Nizamabad and Khammam (both 45°C), according to the TS Development and Planning Society.

The TSDPS report marked all 33 districts in orange, as the temperature crossed the 40°C-mark.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, predicted the temperatures to spike by another 2-4°C at isolated places, due to dry weather and north-westerly winds.

The city will have a generally cloudy sky, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 39°C and 27°C, respectively, over the next two days. Westerly surface winds of around 6-10 kmph are also expected.
