Chennai: Announcing schedules for state board examinations, school education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said the results of plus 2 exams in the current academic year (2018-19) would be declared on April 19, 2019 thereby advancing the declaration of results by almost a month.
“By reducing language and English exams each to one paper in the coming year, we have in effect reduced four exam days for plus 1 and plus 2 students,” he told reporters here on Tuesday.
The move not only reduces the burden of teachers, it will also likely to help the students who prepare for NEET exam. Now, they have more than a month and half for the preparation.
While answering another question, the minister said, “In view of the low marks scored by the Plus-1 students in their first board exam, the government is considering about not taking the Plus-1 marks into account while consolidating the Plus-2 marks this year.”
As per the government order, the total marks for both Plus-1 and Plus-2 exams were reduced to 600 marks from 1,200 and the Plus-1 marks also will be taken into account while consolidating Plus-2 marks.
In the board exams, only 4.29% students scored above 500 out of 600 marks this year. In the science stream, 18,092 students alone scored above 500 marks which are roughly around 82% this year. This announcement will bring huge relief to the students.
As per the announcement, the Plus-2 exams will start on March 1 and conclude on March 19. The results for the exam will be declared on April 19.
The Plus-1 board exams will begin on March 6 and end on March 22. The results will be declared on May 8. The class 10 exams will begin on March 14 and it will go on until March 29. The results will be released on April 29.
